Mechuka

Mechuka or Menchuka is located at an altitude of 6000 meters in the West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh near the Indo-China border. It is a stunning and offbeat destination known for its scenic natural beauty, rich culture, adventure, tranquillity and serene environment.

The surrounding areas are ideal for trekking, wildlife spotting, and bird watching. The region has a variety of flora and fauna, including rare species of orchids and birds. The dense forests are also home to wild animals like the clouded leopard and various species of deer.

Since, Mechuka is located near the Indo-China border, you have to obtain a Protected Area Permit / Inner Line Permit at https://eilp.arunachal.gov.in/preTuristEIlpKYC by paying a prescribed fee.

How to reach Mechuka:

By Air:

The nearest airport is in Mechuka itself which is connected with Helicopter service from Itanagar twice a week on Saturday and Monday, under UDAAN Scheme. However, other nearest airports are Dibrugarh Airport (383 KM), Ziro Airport (487 KM) and Donyi Polo Airport (508 KM).

By Train:

Mechuka is 321 Km from the nearest Railway Station ‘Murkongselek’. Some trains are available from New Delhi to Murkongselek. Book a cab or taxi for rest of the journey.

By Road:

Mechuka is a remote area, so the best way to reach here is by road from the nearest major town, Aalo (186 KM) or Pasighat (284KM) or Ziro (490KM). The roads can be challenging, so be prepared for a long and rugged journey.

However, if you want to explore the entire route through your car, you can drive from New Delhi to Mechuka via Ziro. Though it is quite a long journey but you can cover the distance of 2590 km in 53 hours depending on the route and stops. Of course, you have to take break according to your choice in between like Lucknow, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, New Jalpaiguri, Tezpur, Itanagar, Ziro, Aalo etc.

Best Time to Visit:

The best time to visit Ziro is from March to May and September to December, as the weather is pleasant and ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Mechuka Valley

Samten Yangchang Monastery

This Buddhist monastery is one of the main attractions in Mechuka, which is approximately 400 year old situated at a peak of a hill. Siko Dido Waterfall

The road to Mechuka is spiked with numerous small waterfalls but the views of Siko Dido waterfalls in Irgo village are mesmerizing. It’s about a few kilometres before Mechuka, falling from a height of 200 feet. The falls has prominent green mountains surrounding it and is very hard to miss.

Mechuka Lake

Mechuka Lake, also known as Mekong Lake, is a serene and picturesque lake located at distance of about 5 km from Mechuka. With its serene beauty and surrounding natural wonders, it is one of the hidden gems of the area and a perfect place for those seeking peace, solitude, and an escape into nature. Dorjeeling Village

Dorjeeling Village is a picturesque village located in the Mechuka Valley. On the way to Lamang, there is temple built by BRO and maintained by the Indian Army at a site where a clear natural cliff of Lord Hanuman visible on a top of a hill. Its stunning view of surrounding mountains, Gurudwara, Siyom River and Valley makes a popular spot for tourists to stop for some snaps.
